About MacAngus Designs
MacAngus Designs has been created by British designer Kate MacAngus. As a daughter of an architect and from a creative family, she has always had an appreciation for design and was encourage from a young age to draw and make. As an adult, she was influenced by vintage textiles, patterns, photographs and stories, with this appreciation for things old, she believes these influences can be reworked into contemporary renditions, and her love of travel and new experience means Kate is constantly rethinking and reworking designs and ideas.
Kate initially thought she would pursue a career in Fine Art or 2D communication. However, after a significant year at Oxford and Cherwell College under the teaching and inspiration of Chris Roberts (Ceramist) and Lucy Jade Sylvester (Jewellery Designer), she discovered a love and challenge in working in 3D. She continued her education at the renowned School of Jewellery in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, completing a Ba Hons in Jewellery and Silversmithing (2005-2008). Here she developed a broad education of design and making and gained recognition after developing an award winning collection which combined found objects, precious metals and textiles.
In the subsequent years after completing her degree, Kate worked as an educator and gained her PGCE which enabled her to teach a range of subjects from Art and Design, 3D Design, Jewellery Design and Make, Resistant Materials and Product Design in Birmingham, London and Berkshire.
Based in Windsor, England, Kate’s vision is to design and produce quality handmade pieces which reflect the everyday woman; who is image conscious yet practical, and required to play a multitude of personalities and roles. The jewellery looks pretty and feminine, yet is strong and sometimes chunky. With details and quirks which can complement any look at work, play and adventure.
